Yes, clich s and facile presentations of Jews and Catholics abound in this novel, but I don t care I love a good defrocked priest story and this was a good one.I just loved everything about the relationship between Timothy and Deborah the way it began, the manner in which it was consummated, and their eventual reconciliation I did wish Erich Segal had done a better job showing how Deborah and Tim went from barely acquaintances to a romantic attachment for each other I felt the author did a decen [...]

I had really high hopes for this book but then realized that the religious themes were actually overwhelming Maybe I m biased because I know so few pious people in real life, so the characters and their storylines seemed really far fetched It was a good and interesting story, though A bit cheesy, but sometimes that s not a bad thing 3.5 stars.

I learned a lot about the Jewish culture in reading this book, as well as how and why it is not the same as the Jewish faith The characters were struggling to understand their own heritage and what part of it was choice and what part a required privilege It was extremely interesting and the characters and locations were well drawn.

As well researched and plotted as this is, I entered into with skepticism from the outset Sadly, I wasn t able to let go of it.

A complete page turner, despite its hefty 500 pages.It was an enlightening read, with regards to the Jewish culture and history, and it had a lot of insights into Christianity.At times the religious aspects of the book are overwhelming, but, those are definitely overcome by how much you get to learn about these religions The story takes us through New York, Israel, Brazil and Rome, and is never a drag to read Yes, it is a little predictable, and maybe Daniel should have had a bit limelight, but [...]

This is a wonderful book So interesting to read about two faiths and how they relate to and perceive God Since I have always been Protestant, I learned a lot, but am left with questions The character development was well done Since this is an older book, I am almost certain I read it many years ago It is a book worth rereading

Love story was my introduction to Segal but this is the book that made him an author worth reading to me.Its a saga that explores too of the most popular faiths Christinaity and Juadaism They have repeatedly clashed iwth each other and as an outsider since I donot belong to either it made a fascinating read.

This book is one of my favorite of all times What I loved in the book is that each character tries to run away from his or her identity, eventually comes to terms with it There is no running away from who we are, where are born, and which religion we belong to.

I must confess that old age and maturity is making me have a kinder attitude towards Erich Segal s books Like I mentioned in my review for Doctors, the elements of his books which put me off them remain the unrealistic perfection of the characters, the soap drama like way his stories unfold and, as many other reviewers have pointed out the overall predictability of his books I suspect that after the success of Love Story, both the book and the film, he wished to repeat it and wrote his books in [...]

I originally read this book back in 1993, around the time it was first published I remember at that time I could not put the book down and was very moved by the story Twenty years later, it was still a fantastic story for the inside peek into the Catholic Church and also into the life of an Orthodox Jew The story intertwines three lives Danny and Deborah children of a well known Rabbi , and Tim Hogan a neighborhood boy hoodlum who turns into a priest and of course carries a torch for the forbid [...]

This is one of the most poorly written book I have read in a long time It could have been written by a young reader in a creative writing class This is fiction, not literary fiction I was mostly interested in the story of Deborah She had the most dimensions Tim was a good person and humble, but he never truly interested me It shows how the two religions have their own set of beliefs, moral compass and personal demons Although we have much in common, there are many things that set us very much ap [...]

My uncle Ted left this behind on a visit, so I read it Probably not something I would have sought out on my own, but it did turn out to be a decent read This traces the lives of an Orthodox rabbi s son and daughter and their interactions with a Catholic priest I found the story to be engaging, but the writing is pretty average I haven t read anything else of Segal s, so I wonder if his other work is as mediocre despite the high profile of his stuff

Somehow missed this one by Erich Segal over the years but am so glad I came across it now I thoroughly enjoyed this book I love following friends saga over the years and this did not disappoint me It was written in 1992 and still today, in 2013 the Catholic and Jewish faiths are struggling with the same issues in their respective religions It would be wonderful to think that in less than another 20 years, some of these issues will be resolved.

Acts of Faith is another great book from Erich Segal I felt like I was watching a period movie, I learnt a lot about Jews and their customs through this book Deborah became my favourite character, she really showed some guts and integrity I felt that the story dipped to a painstakingly slow pace at times, but it managed to hold my interest I d recommend this book to all the romantic book lovers.

This is one of my favorite books I read it several years ago and again recently It is a wonderful story about religious differences, but importantly commonalities Erich Segal was the son and grandson of Rabbis, he claimed it took him four years to write Acts of Faith, because it was the story most about his life He found the intimacy it took to write the story, uncomfortable The characters are wonderfully real and I love this story even than his famous Love Story.
